Al Maya Island
It’s a famous island resort in Abu Dhabi, UAE… it’s a 20 to 30 minute ride via a speedboat or a ferry from Abu Dhabi port, the one near Emirates Palace. Fare is 100 Dirhams per pax (more or less 1200 in Philippine Peso). On Fridays, women can go there for free when they board the 12 noon to 2pm trips. Interested tourists cannot bring food and drinks to the island, except for water… bags will be inspected by the guards and even the water containers will be sniffed! That’s part of their profitability strategy so we would be forced to purchase the goods sold there. And by the way, children below 21 years of age are not permitted to tag along!
The place is like a “freedom island” for the Arabs, since they couldn’t party and drink as much as they can in the main land. It’s a haven for party animals, not just Arabs, but even for European and other Asian tourists as well… Mostly, the tourists come in pairs. I went there last May 11, 2012 with my elder sister and we saw a lot of couples kissing and dancing with the music. Wonderin’ where the music came from? guess what! a resident DJ is there to play it all day and night long! I didn’t really enjoy that much coz I’m not into partying and drinking anymore, we were just up for the plunge! I’m a certified beach bum!
The beach is tempting and you couldn’t help but take a dip… The pool is inviting too, but when we got there, it’s a bit crowded already so we didn’t take long, instead, we opted for the beach and the jakuzzi (‘twas really hot with the rising summer temperature)… But still, it was a day to thank God for the scenic view and the refreshing time despite the generous warmth of the middle eastern summer sunshine! ^^
